Volunteer Opportunities

River monitoring volunteers

Green Mountain Conservation Group is always looking for volunteers for many aspects of our programs. GMCG is largely a volunteer-supported organization and could not function without the dedicated service of our volunteers. Some of these volunteer opportunities include:

√  Mailings and Flyer Posting: Newsletter, event invitations,  and fundraising mailings are completed 6-8 times each year.  Flyers are posted in 40 sites around the 6 watershed towns 6-8 times per year.

√  Water Quality Monitoring: 2012 Volunteers needed! Help with deep water testing from your boat, macroinvertebrate sampling or chemistry sampling in streams, calibrating equipment, or delivering samples to labs in Durham and Concord.  Training will be provided.

√  Education Committee: 2011-2012 volunteers needed to assist with other educational events & programs in local schools, including but not limited to: GET WET! well testing program, VBAP macroinvertebrate sampling program, VLAP lake testing program, Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, etc.  Folks can volunteer as a presenter, help with set-up, take-down, or refreshments. Volunteer to present to others in your town about GMCG’s work and mission.

√  Lake Hosting: We can put you in touch with organizations who need help with boat inspections to stop milfoil and other invasive aquatic plants from spreading into our watershed lakes Memorial Day through Labor Day.

√  Events Committee: Assist with the planning and coordination of special events like Annual Meeting, Watershed Weekend, fundraisers and the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival.

√  Newsletter: Contribute an article, poetry, artwork or a story. Children and adult work welcome!

√  Land Conservation: Provide landowners with resources and information about land conservation options. Reach out to your neighbors!

√  Membership & Development: Help spread GMCG’s mission and be a part of this grassroots organization’s growth by reaching out to your friends and neighbors, assisting with fundraising goals, and building membership support.

Office Assistance:  Periodically we need help to answer the phone, filing and archiving, light cleaning, yard work, and data entry.

√ NH Big Tree Program. Volunteers can help identify champion trees in Carroll County for the NH Big Tree program. Carroll County is missing in at least 80 trees from the State list, and help is needed to identify champion tree candidates. The attached list provides the CBH (Circumference at Breast Height) and trees that are being sought. Anyone who knows of a promising champion tree candidate should contact Kamal Nath, Co-Chair of Carroll County NH Big Tree, at kamalendunath@yahoo.com or (603) 539-7291.
